One of my favorites beautifully summed up the feelings of a great many readers: “Other self-help books I’ve read have made me feel as if someone was pointing a finger at me and telling me, ‘This is how it is!’ But Shakti took me by the hand, led me into a beautiful garden, and handed me a bouquet of flowers, one at a time. We started to get enthusiastic letters from readers very soon after publication. It was the rare kind of book that helped people make wonderful changes in their lives. It was the kind of book people wanted to read and reread, the kind of book people cherished for everything it had given them. The book initially sold itself-something I attribute to Shakti’s clear, beautiful writing style, as well as the solid content of the book. Booksellers kept telling us that people would come in, buy a copy, and return a few days later and want five or ten copies to give to their friends. But the print run sold out, quickly, purely through word of mouth. I don’t recall that we spent anything at all on promotion I don’t think we sent out even one review copy. We had to borrow money to pay the printing bill. We initially printed two thousand copies of the book. In 1978, Shakti wrote her first book, Creative Visualization. I feel we were led into the publishing business by some higher power (or whatever you want to call it) far beyond either one of us. We had no capital and almost no experience, but after each small step we took, the next small step became obvious. Publisher’s Preface to the Second Edition In 1977, my friend Shakti Gawain and I started a small publishing enterprise. 97 Creative Visualization in Relationships. 58 Grounding Yourself and Running Energy. So we're in a line of traffic with everyone who are pulling in and making U-turns to leave, visualizing being admitted in, when one of the cars leaving starts rolling down the window as he got near us, reaches his arm out the window, AND HANDS ME A DAILY PARKING TICKET! We were literally 30 seconds away from the entrance gate! We got to the gate, showed the ticket, and continued straight in instead of making the U-turns back out! Of course we went crazy, "OMG OMG!!", and one of our teenage boys said, "that's just called 'luck'", lol! Really? Two minds visualizing the same thing, then it ck? Out of 50 plus cars, we just happened to get the 'luck' that we asked for.Contents Publisher’s Preface. We took our kids to a beach at Lake Tahoe, and when we arrived there was a big sign that said, 'BEACH PARKING LOT FULL', so my wife said (and filmed herself saying) "ok guys, we're gonna say that we will get in and get parking, right?", so I said "ok, yes". My wife and I have both been listening to this book and we put it to use this past Sunday. I just found that this program completely missed the mark and I can't recommend it-especially if you are currently suffering a health set back. I believe strongly in the mind/body link and the need for healing and positive visualizations and meditation during times of both wellness and illness. It is negative and unhelpful to suggest anything else in this recording. There is nothing suffering people want more than to feel better and get back to activities of living. They are in pain &/or too weak to do anything else. If you have ever been seriously ill or worked with patients suffering from chronic or life threatening illness they are NOT "resting" when they are bed bound. The idea that people make themselves "sick" because they can't rest and "have a break" any other way is both ludicrous and offensive. For example, Gawain must have limited experience both personally and with people she has worked with when it comes to illness and disease. To me, it just wasn't up to my expectations and in parts I found the message judgmental and misinformed. I had high hopes when I saw this recording here on Audible and all the great reviews that went with it. I listened to Gawain's Guided Imagery recordings a long time ago on cassettes and liked her work.
